Transitional Housing Program

The Good Shepherd Pregnant Teen Center transitional housing program is designed to ensure that pregnant youth and young adults/teen parents complete high school and go on to college or job ready when they leave the program. The Good Shepherd Pregnant Teen Center will give the pregnant youth and young adults a strong sense of hope and remove the fear of hopelessness.

The Good Shepherd Pregnant Teen Center outcome objectives are:

  1. Reduce the number of pregnant youth/young adults exiting the foster care system
  2. Expand educational services to pregnant youth/young adults complete their education in 12-24 months
  3. Increase the number of pregnant youth and young adult parents improve their parenting skills
  4. Increase the number of pregnant youth and young adult parents that are equipped to enter into the work force
  5. Reduce the number of low-birth weight babies born to pregnant youth.

The Good Shepherd Pregnant Teen Center understands that studies have found with early pre-natal care, proper diet and an improved living environment, counseling services, and education. The child of a youth or young adult parent will have a healthier start in life and the pregnant youth will have a greater chance of success as an adult, breaking the cycle of teenage pregnancy.

Our transitional housing program provides parenting skills, nutrition classes to address the importance of health and wellness for both mother and child.

We address the mental aspect of being pregnant, and the long-term effect of being a parent by providing one on one counseling, group sessions and journaling.

Our program addresses the level of education and income by helping with completing high school and attending college.

Our program provides employment readiness and interview skills through role play, dress for success, and resume writing to ensure the youth and young adults will earn a decent wage to provide for the child and themselves.

Educational Services & Resource Center

We will utilize courses taught out of Mc Graw Hills G E D Prep ® for our educational sessions, to prepare clients that want to obtain a GED. Courses are for personal improvement and or enhancement only. Certificate of participation will be given and has no credit or unit value. In addition to Classes, seminars are held.
Here are some of the classes we offer

  • Parenting
    The Parenting Course will be taught from the ARK (Adults Relating to Kids) curriculum.
  • Vocational
    Employment Readiness sessions will utilize the local library, The EDD (Employment Development Department), and will be reinforced through interview role play, resume writing, and basic computer skills.

    Our journaling sessions will be used as a coping tool, to assist in dealing with certain traumas, such as human trafficking, suicide awareness, drug addiction, and abandonment issues. The focus of journaling is from the client’s perspective, dealing with the "Me, Myself, and I"
